By the end of this learning activity students will:

  • Recognize how frameworks are used in research.
  • Identify a framework for use in a research project.
  • Refine the project grading criteria.

 

These ends in view are designed to help students meet the following course learning objectives:

Outcome Objective
3. Enact practices and protocols for examining a chosen topic of inquiry. A. Plan a project that will examine a specific nursing issue in depth.

C. Based on the purpose of the project, justify the most appropriate project design.

D. Contribute to the development of success criteria for course projects.

5. Create a product to demonstrate the application and integration of nursing inquiry processes. B. Create a product that contributes to a new understanding of nursing knowledge.

 


In Preparation

    • Review the literature about how to integrate theory into your selected project.
      • For research proposals, there is a book by Creswell on reserve (older edition) that is recommended.
      • For literature reviews, this open textbook is recommended.
      • You are not limited to these recommendations. Use your skills to find and use other sources of information to meet your needs. The library databases are full of good sources. YouTube also has some good information. Ensure you are using reputable sources.
    • Watch these videos

 

    • Review the project rubric and contribute to it.
    • Refine your project based on feedback from previous work.

Attend the live session or view the recording. During the live session we will:

  • Hear from a graduate.

    • Discuss Poster Day November 22 from 9 am to 3 pm.
    • Project due dates in November.
    • Completion of the academic integrity form.
    • Grade negotiation updates.
    • Reminder: Please complete course evaluation.
  • Discuss how to incorporate a framework or theory into student projects.
  • Discuss the project rubric.
  • Identify and address some of the challenges students are facing in the course.


Progress to Praxis (Participation) 

  • Identify a theory that can be used for your project.
  • Draft the theoretical framework section of your paper or rationale for not using a theory.
  • Use the grading criteria here as a guide.
