Licensing Matters

“The Standard YouTube License is found in Section 6 of YouTube’s Terms of Service. You also have the option of the Creative Commons Attribution license. Learn more.”

I am exploring the impact of both licensing options on my YouTube channel and if the CC-BY license actually means anything on YouTube. Creative Commons licensing would, at a minimum, prevent me from receiving emails like the one below – to which I always say “yes you can use my video.” My purpose for making videos is to impact student success, so sharing just makes sense. For more information, please read this blog post and follow along on my journey by subscribing to my blog and/or following me on Twitter.

Ironically I got the email above after attending the OE Global conference in Delft, Netherlands. Of course, I immediately reviewed the video’s content and changed the licensing to CC-BY along with other videos that I recommended to them.
